Ingredients

 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon kosher salt

2 ounces dark chocolat

1 cup white sugar

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1 large egg

2 very ripe bananas, mashed

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup chopped walnuts

1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

12 slices banana

2 tablespoons white sugar

Directions

step 1

Turn the oven on to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). Grease a 9 × 9-inch square pan liberally. To keep things from sticking, you can also line the bottom of the pan with parchment paper.

step 2

In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt; set aside.

step3

In a glass or ceramic bowl that is safe to use in the microwave, melt chocolate in 15-second increments, stirring every one to three minutes.

step 4

In a large basin, beat together butter and sugar with an electric mixer until frothy and light. Beat in the mashed banana, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix in chocolate and beat until smooth and thoroughly mixed.

step 5

After combining the chocolate chips and walnuts with a spatula, stir in the flour just until it is completely incorporated. Pour batter into the pan that has been ready and level the top. Arrange the banana slices in a grid pattern, spaced equally, on top.

step 6

A skewer inserted almost cleanly, but with some batter on the very tip, should come out of the preheated oven after baking. Don't overcook the brownies if you want them fudgier.

step 7

Allow brownies in the pan to cool. Serve cold, covered, and chill for approximately one hour or until very cold.

step 8

For the optional banana brûlée, sprinkle a half-teaspoon of sugar over each slice of banana while the brownies cool. Melt the sugar with a propane cooking torch until it's boiling and dark brown. Take care not to scorch the edges.
